word of the year

Pondering what my word of the year will be for 2010.

Possibilities:
- rejuvenate
- rest
- heal
- restore
- story

Still thinking...may land somewhere completely different.

looking ahead

with 2008 in the books, here’s what I’m shooting for in 2009, creatively:

reading. goal of 50 books. averages out to approximately one per week. ambitious? yes. achievable? i think so.

writing. I’m not going to set a goal of a specific number of days this year. i have some ideas about what I want to write about and will focus on that.

photography. increase my photoshop skills. take another class or two at working with artists. take pictures consistently. and do something with them. get a macro lens, duaflex camera, and build a contraption so I can take thru the viewfinder shots. work on the plastic jesus series.

learn the mac. 2008 saw me move from being a pc girl to being a mac girl. great move. still have a lot to learn about the mac and all i can do with it. i’m signing up for apple’s one-to-one program so i can get the most from it. how can you go wrong with the option for an hour’s worth of one-on-one instruction for $99 for a whole year?

more knitting, collaging, random hand-crafting and d-i-y projects.

flicks

Geez, I wish I was at the movies right now, instead of un-decking my halls. A movie today would make three days of movies in a row for this holiday week.

Enjoyed both Juno and The Kite Runner this week.

happy new year to me

Fun surprise for the New Year: I won Presbyterian Gal's contest by being the first person to guess what a certain photo on her website was.
The prize? A poem in my honor as her first post of 2008. Check it out.

pondering 2007

Looking back to my first post of 2007, here's what I hoped for this year:
- more sleep. less Red Bull.
- more creativity. less working for The Man.
- all in all, a more life-giving vs. soul-stealing year.

I think I did sleep more. And while it is still around, Red Bull is much less a necessity than it was last year. I can quit any time. Really.

Not sure how much less I'm working than in 2006. But working for a different man is a lot better.

More life-giving than soul-stealing? Yeah, I think so. Spiritual direction helped immensely with this. As did pulling out of doing some things that were just a drag.

I'd say the highlights of 2007 were starting a new job, turning 40, deepening some friendships, and starting to simplify my life. And finding the Ricola Mystery Cougher.

I'm hopeful for what lies ahead in 2008.

word of the year - steadfast

Posting this here for my own benefit.

Word of the year. I think mine is steadfast. Webster defines steadfast as fixed in direction, or firm in purpose, resolution, faith, attachment, etc.; firmly established, firmly fixed in place or position.

I think there are two sides to this for me. First, growing in my belief/trust of God's character and who He is. Which in turn will grow my faith.

Thinking more like a mile deep and an inch wide, instead of a mile wide and an inch deep.

gearing up

I've carved out some time this weekend to gear up for 2007, in an effort to be more intentional about how I spend my time and resources in the coming year. Although a lot of good things happened in 2006, I feel like I squandered a lot of time. Fewer books read, fewer completed art projects and essays than intended.

So far, I have:
- a reading plan
- a list of new art projects to try
- some potential sources for submissions for photos and essays
- freshly manicured fingers and toes
- a warm, fluffy robe

Still some soul care and Urban Skye planning to come.
